Dermal Fillers contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is found naturally throughout the body, Hyaluronic Acid attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated, retain softness and plumpness. FAQs
Dermal Fillers are one of the most common types of cosmetic procedures in the world. Temporary Dermal Fillers contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is found naturally throughout the body, mainly in the joints, eyes and skin. In the skin, Hyaluronic Acid attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated, retain softness and plumpness.
With age, the fat pads on our face begin to shrink/thin and sag, our bone density decreases and bone structure changes, and the skin on our face becomes thinner. This loss of volume leads to either a sagging or sunken appearance, fine lines, wrinkles, facial folds and thinner lips. Dermal Filler is used to rehydrate, restore volume loss, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial folds, and to create/enhance contour and volume to the face and lips. Resulting in a lasting smooth, youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
What Are Lip Fillers? How Lip Fillers Work
It is a non-surgical, relatively painless procedure that only takes about 15-30 minutes and there is minimal to no downtime. To reduce discomfort, a topical numbing cream will be applied prior to treatment. In addition, all of our Dermal Fillers contain Lidocaine to further help minimize discomfort.
Dermal Fillers are highly effective and safe. Aesthetic Nurse Katrena only uses FDA and Health Canada approved Dermal Fillers.
Common treatment areas include: Lips, Vertical Lip Lines, Cheeks, Chin, Jawline, Nasolabial Folds (Smile Lines) and Marionette Lines.

Benefits of Lip Filler Treatments in Oshawa
Who is a Good Candidate for Lip Filler?
A good candidate is anyone wanting to restore volume loss, correct asymmetry, enhance facial features and regain balance in the face. Dermal Fillers can help with skin complexion and texture, and reducing the depth of creases in the skin. Dermal Fillers are also great for those looking to achieve more hydration and volume in the lips. Those ideal for treatment are men and women 22 years of age and older.
You should NOT receive Dermal Fillers if you are/have:
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding
-
A previous known allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to Lidocaine or Hyaluronic Acid
-
An active skin infection or inflammation such as acne, rash or cold sores near the site of injection, it is best to wait until these have resolved to prevent it from becoming worse or spreading
-
A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, you may not be suitable for treatment due to the increased risk

What Should I Expect During My Lip Filler Appointment?
All procedures begin with a consultation which includes a questionnaire about your health history and any previous Dermal Filler injection treatments you have had. This all remains confidential. We will then discuss your concerns, desires and what you would and would not like to achieve with treatment. Before photos will be taken. We will discuss what Dermal Fillers are, how they work, what to expect, possible side effects and how to prevent them/aftercare instructions.
Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will then assess your anatomy to determine the best product and placement for your desired outcomes. A treatment plan will be provided which will include: brand, dose, placement, technique and price. We will discuss how we will achieve your goals and include an estimated timeline based on your anatomy and baseline. Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will then apply a numbing cream followed by the use of a very fine needle to strategically inject the filler. Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will explain and give you a copy of the aftercare instructions. The whole appointment usually takes about 60+ minutes depending on treatment area and number of areas treated.
Lip Filler Before and After Care Instructions
Dermal Fillers require minimal downtime and everyday activities can be resumed immediately. However, we do ask that clients refrain from intense heat exposure until any redness or swelling has gone down, avoid touching the treated area for 4 hours after your treatment, refrain from exercising and avoid alcohol for 24 hours, and do not massage the treated area unless instructed to do so. Aesthetic Nurse Injector will provide you with the complete post treatment instructions to take home before you leave the clinic.
Other Treatments: facial peels, micro-needling, micro-blading, lasers, ultrasound-based treatments or dental procedures. It is best to wait 2 weeks before and after these treatments to receive Dermal Fillers.
If you should experience any signs of infection (abnormal redness, swelling, oozing, fever, heat, pain) or experience any signs of a vascular occlusion (any bruising that spreads, blanching/pale skin, unusual or continued pain, skin breakdown or feeling generally unwell) or any other complications, please contact the provider immediately: info@aestheticnursekatrena.ca or (289) 688-8469

What Should I Expect After My Lip Filler Treatment?
Mild to moderate redness, swelling and bruising may appear but usually will subside within 5-7 days, but can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. To minimize these, we recommend clients apply a cold compress and arnica gel after their treatment. Because healing can take up to 2 weeks, we recommend that clients schedule Dermal Filler appointments a minimum of 2 weeks before any important events.
When Will I See Results After Lip Fillers?
Results are seen immediately following your treatment. Because Dermal Fillers are injected with a needle it may cause temporary swelling, redness and bruising, but improvement will continue for 2 weeks. Please allow 2 weeks before any important events to allow for any side effects to resolve and before assessing your results.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers are not permanent. Since Hyaluronic Acid is a natural component of the skin, our bodies eventually reabsorb it with time. Depending on the area being treated, the type of filler used and the individuals metabolism, Dermal Fillers can typically last anywhere between 6-22+ months.

Are Lip Fillers Safe? Risks & Side Effects Explained
The most common side effects include redness, swelling, and bruising in the treated area, which usually subsides within 5-7 days, but can take up to 2 weeks to completely resolve. You might notice lumps and bumps during your healing process, but these typically resolve on their own within 3-4 weeks. If they persist, contact your provider.
A serious but rare side effect, Vascular Occlusion can occur if Dermal Filler is unintentionally injected into a vein or artery, which can lead to serious complications. This will be discussed during the consultation. If a Vascular Occlusion is to occur, it can and will be treated. We use Hyaluronidase, a medication that dissolves Dermal Fillers and restores blood flow to the affected tissue. Studies estimate the risk of a Vascular Occlusion happening is about 1 in 2000 to 1 in 10,000 (0.05–0.01%). We take every precaution to minimize these risks by understanding facial anatomy, employing precise and safe injection techniques, and recognizing the signs and symptoms of Vascular Occlusion.
Lip Filler vs Botox
While Dermal Fillers and Botox are both popular injectable treatments used to treat facial wrinkles, both options are better suited to different cases. Botox/Nuceiva is a muscle relaxer and is commonly used to treat wrinkles that are caused by muscle movements/facial expressions. These typically occur around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Dermal Fillers are also primarily used to treat Smile Lines (Nasolabial Folds) or other facial lines caused by natural effects of aging, but they can also be used to add volume in the Lips, Cheeks, Chin and more.
A general rule of thumb is, lines that appear with expressions, like Crows Feet around the eyes that only appear when you smile for example, need Botox/Nuceiva. Lines that are visible while your face is relaxed need filler. To determine the best injectable treatment for you, schedule a consultation with Aesthetic Nurse Katrena today.
