What Should I Expect During My Botox Appointment?
All procedures begin with a consultation which includes a questionnaire about your health history and any previous anti-wrinkle injection treatments you have had. This all remains confidential. We will then discuss your concerns, desires and what you would and would not like to achieve with treatment. Before photos will be taken. We will discuss what Neuromodulators are, how they work, what to expect, possible side effects and how to prevent them/aftercare instructions.
Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will then assess your anatomy and facial muscles to determine injection placement. A treatment plan will be provided which will include: brand, dose, placement, technique and price. We will discuss how we will achieve your goals and include an estimated timeline based on your anatomy and baseline. Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will then inject a small amount of Botox or Nuceiva into the targeted muscles. Aesthetic Nurse Katrena will explain and give you a copy of the aftercare instructions. The whole appointment usually takes about 30-60 minutes depending on treatment area and number of areas treated.
Botox Before and After Care Instructions
Minimal downtime is required and everyday activities can be resumed immediately. However, we do ask that clients refrain from lying down, avoid touching the treated area and avoid hot showers, facials and saunas for 4 hours after your treatment. Refrain from exercising and massaging/apply pressure to your face for 24 hours following your treatment. Aesthetic Nurse Injector will provide you with the complete post treatment instructions to take home before you leave the clinic.
Other Treatments: facial peels, micro-needling, micro-blading, lasers or ultrasound-based treatments. It is best to wait 2 weeks before and after these treatments to receive Botox/Nuceiva.

What Should I Expect After My Botox Treatment?
Mild redness at injection site is normal for a few hours to days. You may have a mild headache for 24-48h post-treatment, alternatively some patients may find headache relief with treatments. Because Botox is injected with a needle, there is a risk of bruising. If bruising is to occur, it typically resolves in about 2-3 day, but can take up to 7 days in some cases.
When Will I See Results After Botox?
You can begin to see results within 48 to 72 hours of treatment. However, full results are visible about 10-14 days following your appointment. A follow-up appointment is encouraged at 2 weeks to allow for an assessment of the treatment effect. If more product is needed for treatment adjustment, a touchup appointment is to be completed between 14 and 21 days following your initial appointment. After 21 days a touch up cannot be completed. Additional fees are required.
How Long Does Botox Last?
Anti-wrinkle injections are not permanent. All patients are different however, results typically last anywhere from 3 to 4 months. Anti-wrinkle injections are a temporary procedure and at first, you may find that your treatment results will last approximate 3 or 4 months. However, if you maintain your treatment appointments within the recommended frequency, the duration of your treatment result may last longer than 4 months.
Initially, we see our patients between the 3 month (12 weeks) and 4 month (16 weeks) time period. We are able to create the best clinical results for you during this period. It is important to keep up with your treatments during this time period as we do not want the targeted muscles to regain their full strength. If you wait too long between treatments, static fine lines and wrinkles will return and treatment progression will be lost, therefore optimal results will be harder to achieve.
Because Botox requires a special technique in order to customize the injections to your individual muscular structure, it is important that your muscle activity recovers BUT that your skin is not creasing to the point from where you started.

Is Botox Safe? Risks & Side Effects Explained
Side effects are uncommon, but depending on the area treated, there is a risk you could experience eyebrow heaviness, eyelid ptosis (drooping eyelid/eyelids), an asymmetrical smile, or dry eyes. Rest assured, none of the side effects are permanent; they typically resolve within a few weeks to a couple of months. We take extensive measures to minimize these risks by carefully landmarking the injection sites, using precise injection techniques, and administering a conservative dose. We’ll provide you with a copy of the Aftercare Instructions to help prevent these risks.
Medical/Therapeutic Botox Treatments
Botox & TMJ/Bruxism – JawPain & Teeth Grinding/ Clenching Treatment
Botox is an effective treatment for TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) pain and discomfort. Botox is injected into and weakens the Masseter (jaw) muscle which relieves jaw tension and pain, headaches, teeth grinding/clenching and minimizes lockjaw. Effects typically lasts 4-6 month or longer, with an increase in treatment duration with repeated treatments.
Botox & Hyperhidrosis – Excessive Sweating Treatment
Botox is an effective treatment for Hyperhidrosis/excessive sweating, temporarily blocks nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands, resulting in the reduction/prevention of excessive sweating. Common treatment areas include: the underarms, palms of hands or feet. Treatment can reduce underarm sweat by 82-87%. Effects typically lasts 6 to 10 months or longer, with an increase in treatment duration to 12+ months with repeated treatments.
Botox vs Dermal Fillers
While Botox and Dermal Fillers are both popular injectable treatments used to treat facial wrinkles, both options are better suited to different cases. Botox is a muscle relaxers and is commonly used to treat wrinkles that are caused by muscle movements/facial expressions. These typically occur around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Dermal fillers are also primarily used to treat Smile Lines (Nasolabial Folds) or other facial lines caused by natural effects of aging, but they can also be used to add volume in the Lips, Cheeks, Chin and more.
A general rule of thumb is, lines that appear with expressions, like Crows Feet around the eyes that only appear when you smile for example, need Botox. Lines that are visible while your face is relaxed need Dermal Filler. To determine the best injectable treatment for you, schedule a consultation with Aesthetic Nurse Katrena today.
